Volunteer Paloma introduces Monti, a rescued infant orangutan at International Animal Rescue's emergency centre in Ketapang, West Kalimantan.
At only about 6 months old, Monti is the smallest orangutan at the centre. She arrived on 30 November 2009 after we had been looking for her for several days. Some one had told the forestry officers that a family had a young orangutan. They said some rural people had found her all alone in the jungle and that they had been taking care of her ever since. But we know the reality is that somebody must have killed her mother first to get to the baby.
She is still very small and needs lots of care, just like a human baby. At the moment she drinks lots of milk and sleeps a lot. I will keep you posted on how shes getting on.
