Volunteer Paloma introduces Melky, a rescued orangutan at International Animal Rescue's transit centre in Ketapang, West Kalimantan.
Melky is a male of about 2 and a half years old. He arrived in April 2009, a bit later than Nicky.
A resident in Pontianak brought him in, saying he had found him alone on the side of the road. Probably somebody was selling him and he felt sorry for him, bought him and then brought him in to the centre.
Melky is the most active in the infant group. He loves to climb the trees at the centre and eat the fruit from them. He is the one who gets the others to play, chasing them and nipping them. He is very confident running, climbing and pursuing the others!
